My girl Kenzie.

I live every man's dream every day. When I get home an 85 pound blonde jumps in my lap and licks my face.

Damn...didn't expect this here today...we've had some really bad news. The doggies that some of you have seen before, off site, or clicking my lame links, have just gotten some terrible news. The older one in the pics here, bigger, by the name of Wyatt, has terminal lymphoma.

Crap. Only a few weeks to go. Went from perfect health to any day now in two short weeks.

Dire and I have talked about it a number of times, and I was just comforting someone here about it, and then this...

Tell -

Terrible news and you have my sympathies. I already know I am going to have to take a few days off when Kenzie dies. I don't even want to think about it.

Our next door neighbors have two Corgis and a Golden - you should see the fur fly when they are playing with Kenzie - talk about "Dogs in a pile".

Thanks Mando; yep, the one that is passing is the friendliest dog I've encountered in my 50+ yrs with many...the smaller one is the crankiest sort you'd ever imagine, more than willing to engage any and all comers, much to the dismay of the older one ("uh...der...we have to fight again? can't we just slobber all over them instead?").

WT,

Words can't express how sorry I am to hear that...worst part of having dogs in our lives is how short their lives can be. really sorry, man. They're both great-looking dogs, btw.

Thanks Grendel; realized I coulda picked a better shot or two, but those were handy...yep, the best little herding dogs you can find. When we go hiking here in the SW, they never leave the "group", whether it's the wife and I, or with the kids, or a larger group on a nature walk...they travel from front to back of the group, pausing, checking, making certain no one is left behind, or strays off trail. If someone does, they wait--go to "get them", make certain the group recognizes it, etc.

Really funny given how small they are...those Welsh are all right--no wonder I like Miss D so much.

Thanks for the kind words.

So sorry to hear this sad news, William Tell. I know how really awful it is to lose them. Here are our 3 cats - well, Harry and Chloe are our cats now. Billy went missing in August and is presumed dead. It was truly terrible - I still tear up thinking about it. He was a feral little cat that lived in our greenhouse and eventually allowed me the privilege of sitting in my lap. I hope your remaining time with Wyatt is sweet.

Marley is the red haired stranger, a 14 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback - Pointer.

Leila in Persian translates to Black Beauty. She's a GoldenDoodle who is pregnant for the 2nd time.

Spencer L'Orange is a White Indian Runner bottle kneck duck.

What else is ranched at Chateau Wineland? Used to have 4 chickens until one was carried off by a hawk. The one we lost the kids called Stupid Chicken, which it was. After it was gone my daughter immortilized it as 'Ollie' and corrects my fowl language when I refer to it as Stupid Chicken.

Two rabbits, named Chili & Luna, that somehow I voted against but end up cleaning the pens once a week. I'm considering calling one fricassee and the other stew. I kid, I kid...

Here's my last 2:
One is my Chesapeake Bay Retriever I gave up for adoption in 2007. These dogs can dive into a river and come out dry. She's the smartest dog I've ever had.

The other is my English Mastiff when she was a puppy. We are now estranged since 2007. That damned woman in the background took her with her. She won't go near water, and is the dumbest dog I ever had. Fetch is beyond her comprehension.

Thanks Diane,

She's a real sweetheart and just loves the kids. She'd be happy to spend the rest of her life on your lap!

She was a malnourished and abused kitten when I took her in and we didn't know if she would survive. Now she is 10 years old. She's not the brightest but certainly the dearest!

Hey Jess--though I am feeling a bit down in the pet department these days, I had to share that as a kid in the 60s we had two Shebas, so that name has always meant a great deal to me...in our case they were large German Shepards, police trained even, but very nice. The second was an amazing "frisbee dog" if you know what I mean...you could throw it, level, and no matter how strong an arm, she'd beat it before it touched the ground.

Excuse the overly sentimental recollections...

WT - they must have been great dogs with such a lovely name ;-) It's actually my 2nd Sheba too. I had my 1st Sheba ca. 23 years ago in CA. She disappeared mysteriously in Berkeley near Campus ...

Please, no worry about about being overly sentimental. I only know too well what it's like losing a dear pet and I'm terribly sorry to hear your sad news about Wyatt! .

Just as you have fond memories of your 'Frisbee catching' Sheba (and the other Sheba) you'll also find a place in your heart where Wyatt will always be with you.

The goodbyes are sad and painful but the memories will be heart-warming and forever.
